The campus is home to the Mary Miller Smiser Heritage Library and Museum, Culp Building, and the 1838-1871 County Courthouse. The courthouse where the Old Drum Trial took place, has been carefully restored in its original location. In the trial’s closing arguments, George Graham Vest’s Eulogy of the Dog made the trial known around the world by serving as the inspiration for the phrase, Man’s Best Friend.

This park is a tranquil retreat of open oak woodland with a few patches of prairie along both sides of Clearfork Creek. It’s a place for anglers to wet a line, for mountain bikers, hikers and horseback riders to get some trail time, and for families to spend quality time together. Kayaks are available to rent. Rock Island Spur of Katy Trail State Park, Leeton, and Chilhowee Spearheads
A 47.5-mile trail that stretches through the heart of west central Missouri. It provides an adventure for bicyclists, hikers, and equestrian users who are seeking an avenue to enjoy nature, explore a part of rural history, and have an enjoyable recreational opportunity. The trail is built on the former corridor of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad.
