FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May is Building Safety Month
May 11, 2016
May is Building Safety Month and is recognized by the City of Warrensburg to remind the public about the critical role of our communities’ building and fire code enforcement officials.
This year’s theme, “Building Codes: Driving Growth through Innovation, Resilience and Safety,” encourages appropriate steps everyone can take to ensure that the places where we live, learn, work, worship and play are safe and sustainable, and recognize that countless lives have been saved due to the implementation of safety codes by local and state agencies.
Established in 1980 as Building Safety Week, Building Safety Month is sponsored by the International Code Council (I.C.C.) and raises public awareness of building safety by promoting the use, enforcement and understanding of building and fire safety codes to protect lives and property.
Building and fire code officials at the City of Warrensburg are active members of the I.C.C. and regularly attend code training seminars approved by the organization. As a part of their duties to ensure a safer community, Warrensburg code officials conduct plan reviews, issue building permits, inspect buildings during and after construction, identify and work to eliminate dangerous buildings, coordinate and participate with county public safety officials in times of natural disasters and provide informational sessions to groups throughout the community.
