About the Department
The City of Warrensburg, Missouri owns and operates two mechanical wastewater treatment facilities (WWTF’s) which provide wastewater services for the residents of the community. The East WWTF, NPDES # “MO-0094579” and West WWTF, NPDES # “MO- 0055905”.
Each facility is issued a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) operating permit. The permits are issued by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) under an approved program, operating in accordance with federal and state laws (Federal “Clean Water Act” and “Missouri Clean Water Law”).
In December 2010 both treatment plants completed a $16,000,000 upgrade consisting of Liquid Treatment Improvements, Biosolids Improvements, and Disinfection. To help fund the WWTF’s upgrade the city elected to participate in the Missouri State Revolving Fund program (SRF), this program provided a low interest loan with an annual interest rate of approximately 2.5 %.
Liquid Treatment Improvements consist of each WWTF receiving a new influent pumping station, effluent pumping station, headworks building with equipment and construction of a third (3) Sequencing Batch Reactor. (SBR)
Disinfection Improvements consist of the installation of a horizontal Ultraviolet (UV) system. Biosolids Improvements consists of the installation of constructed Reed Beds technology.
The design population equivalent (PE) for each plant is equal to 15,000 residents.
These improvements raised the treatment capacity of each facility to 1,500,000 gallons per day, with a treatment capacity during storm event’s up to 9,000,000 gallons per day.
