WARRENSBURG, MO, (April 15, 2015) – Many residents enjoy having trees on their property, but not everyone knows the basics of how to choose trees that will thrive in our area, or how to plant and care for them correctly.
The Warrensburg Tree Board, in partnership with the Missouri Department of Conservation, is offering a free “Tree Selection and Planting” workshop on Saturday, May 2 2015 from 10:00 to 11:15 am at the Warrensburg Community Center, 455 E. Gay St. Registration is requested and can be done by phone at 660-747-7178 or online with eFUN at the Parks and Rec page of http://www.warrensburg-mo.com/departments/parks-recreation/efun-wpr-activity-guide/.
Putting the right tree in the right place and then giving it the right care are crucial steps to having strong, beautiful trees. By knowing just a few of the basics about tree selection and planting, community members can make a big difference not only for the attractiveness of their own property, but for the overall health of the community forest – our city’s “green infrastructure.”
Chuck Conner, Urban Forester with the Missouri Department of Conservation, will lead the class. Afterwards, participants are encouraged to join Mr. Conner and Warrensburg Tree Board members as they move to Shepherd Park for the annual Arbor Day Observance from 11:30 – noon. City personnel will be present to read the official proclamation and a young bald cypress will be planted in honor of the occasion.
