Frequently asked questions. |
|
Do I have to spay or neuter my pet? Yes. It is State Law that shelters must ensure that animals adopted from them are spayed and neutered. Does the Animal Shelter practice early spay and neutering? Yes. We normally spay and neuter at 8 weeks of age. What does the money I pay the Shelter cover? The City does not charge a separate fee for the adoption of an animal. The money you pay the Shelter covers the cost of spaying or neutering your pet and initial vaccinations. Does the Animal Shelter guarantee the health of its animals? The City does not guarantee the health of the animals adopted from the Shelter. The Shelter often does not know the history of animals in its care and illnesses are not always easily detectable by view. Some of the animals the Shelter receives are either strays or have not had proper veterinary care. In addition, the stress of an animal being in a Shelter can lower its natural defenses to disease. It is essential that you take your animal to a veterinarian as soon as you can to detect and treat problems early. Does the Animal Shelter accept donations? The Animal Shelter gladly accepts donations. They may be made payable either to the City of Warrensburg or Johnson County Friends of Animals, a not-for-profit group organized to support the Shelter and expand its adoption services through foster programs and, eventually, a new adoption facility. |
