“Ask-A-Doc”
Warrensburg Parks and Recreation and various physicians will be offering, “Ask-A-Doc”, programs on Wednesdays from 12:00 pm-1:00 pm at the Warrensburg Community Center, 445 E. Gay, Warrensburg. The sessions are FREE! Attendees are welcome to bring their lunch. No registration required just come ready to learn!

Adult Basketball League
Warrensburg Parks & Recreation is currently accepting registrations for Adult Basketball Leagues. Warrensburg Parks & Recreation offers two divisions; Men’s Open League on Monday nights and Men’s 40 and Over on Wednesday nights. Season begins the week of January 10 and runs through March 23. The divisions are “call your own fouls” leagues. Each league consists of 8 regular season games and a post-season single elimination tournament. The league champions will receive championship t-shirts and tourney champs will receive a trophy. All games will be held at the Warrensburg Community Center.
Early Bird registration fee is $185 per team if registered by December 22. Fee is $205 per team if registered December 22-January 2. Registration deadline is January 2, 2011. Instructional Basketball
Warrensburg Parks & Recreation needs all future basketball stars to listen up! WPR has instructional basketball programs for ages 3 up to First Grade. Register now to secure your spot in the program.
Smart Start Basketball is for ages 3-4 years. It was developed to assist young children in learning a variety of basic skills necessary for a successful first-time experience in organized sports. Smart Start allows children the opportunity to work one-on-one with their parent. The final day of practice will be a modified game. The program will be held on Mondays from 5:30-6:30 pm. Session starts January 24 through February 28. Early Bird Fee is $35 if registered by January 8. Fee if registered January 8-18 is $45.
Little Hoopsters is for ages 5-6 years. The program is intended to develop the participant’s individual basketball skills with drill practice and team skills. Players will receive t-shirts. The program will be held on Tuesdays evenings. Players will get a schedule at the first night. Session starts January 25-March 1. Early Bird Fee is $35 if registered by January 8. Fee if registered January 8-18 is $45.
Super Hoopsters is for First Graders. This instructional basketball program is intended to develop the child’s individual basketball skills with drill practice and team skills by practicing and playing scrimmage games. Players will receive t-shirts. The program will be held on Thursdays evenings. Players will get a schedule at the first night. Session starts January 27 through March 3. Early Bird Fee is $35 if registered by January 8. Fee if registered January 8-18 is $45.00.
Registration deadline for all of the programs is January 18 or until program is full. WPR Youth Scholarship is available.

Karate Classes Offered
The Warrensburg Parks & Recreation Department is accepting registrations for upcoming sessions of Karate. WPR offers Ryukyu Kempo Karate-Youth; Ryukyu Kempo Karate-Adult and Shotokan Karate.
Ryukyu Kempo Karate-Youth and Ryukyu Kempo Karate-Adult will focus on self-defense, self-respect, and physical fitness. Testing fees and gis are an additional cost. These are ongoing monthly classes. Ryukyu Kempo Karate-Youth is open to ages 5 -15 years. Ryukyu Kempo Karate-Youth sessions are held on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Ryukyu Kempo Karate-Adult sessions are held on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The Fall/Winter session dates for Ryukyu Kempo Karate-Youth and Adult are as follows: 9/2-9/30, 10/5-10/28, 11/2-11/30, 12/2-12/30, 1/4 -1/27, and 2/1-2/24.
Shotokan Karate will focus on the basic study of the Shotokan Karate. It is a traditional style of martial arts from Japan. The class will emphasize self-defense and conditioning. Students will need to wear workout clothing to all classes. Once a student has achieved 1st rank, he or she will be expected to purchase a uniform at an additional cost. Shotokan Karate sessions are held on Mondays from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The Fall/Winter session dates are as follows: 9/13-9/27, 10/4-10/25, 11/1-11/29, 12/6-12/27, 1/3-1/31, and 2/7-2/28.
Fee per session for Ryukyu Kempo-Youth and Shotokan Karate is $32.00. Fee per session for Ryukyu Kemp Karate-Adult is $34.00. The WPR Youth Scholarship FUNd is available for financial assistance for Johnson County youth.
