City of Warrensburg employees attend OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) Safety Training
Beginning Aug 28, 2009, it is mandatory that all construction employees working on taxpayer-funded projects in Missouri complete the 10-hour OSHA safety course.
In anticipation of this new law, 36 employees from the Warrensburg Public Works, Community Development, Parks and Recreation and Police Departments attended the 10-hour OSHA safety training.
“The 10-hour certification program by OSHA was divided into a day and half,” said Steve Fuchs, Building Inspector for Community Development.
Fuchs highlighted that the course offered some new information as well as being a refresher course on everything related to construction safety.
Contractors and subcontractors working on publicly funded projects that have not completed the required OSHA training in its entirety face a $2,500 fine plus $100 a day for each untrained employee with the implementation of the law.
“The City hired the National Safety Consultants from Chesterfield, Mo., to conduct the training,” Megan Douglas, Project Manager for Public Works said.
The course was designed for construction workers, foremen, job supervisors, and anyone involved in the construction industry.
Douglas highlighted that the course covered aspects of construction safety such as trench safety, fall protection and general work site safety.
With the completion of the course the participants will be receiving an OSHA construction safety and health 10-hour course completion card from the Department of Labor that is good for a lifetime, stated Douglas.
