City of Warrensburg April 20, 2009
Invest, Market and Grow
Jeff Hancock, City Manager speaking at the Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce breakfast networking meeting on April 17, 2009, spoke on the importance of investment, marketing and growth in the Warrensburg community.
Some of the projects that Hancock talked about were the purchase of the new fire trucks, City Hall renovation, acquisition of energy efficient Ford Escapes for City’s staff, construction of the new public works and police building, Nassif pool construction, EnerSys expansion, East Loop project as well as projects at the University and Whiteman Air Force Base.
Hancock in his presentation described the changes that would take affect in the Madison Street infrastructure with the eventual renovation of City Hall and the construction of the new police building.
“The new police building is under construction right now; it is being constructed west of City Hall and that whole block will have a streetscape that will tie into downtown”, said Hancock.
All in all, Hancock, in his presentation to the Chamber, outlined $378.5 million in investments in the community. The projection was made on the basis of the projects which are already underway and the positive impact that this investment will have on the community.
Hancock, in his speech, also emphasized the aspect of marketing the community for further growth in this slow economy.
“Studies show when the economy is down, the best thing you can do to get ahead is market because you get more for your money”, said Hancock. “So my point is we all need to market this community, we need to market it to our own people, but also to the whole state and the people who will visit us.”
Talking on the issue of growth, Hancock highlighted that if Warrensburg received a good census count it could potentially surpass Sedalia’s population.
“A good census count will increase Warrensburg’s share of the State Highway Funds, as well as enhancing the prospect of other federal and state grants such as Housing and Urban development, Agriculture and Health and Human services and assist in the recruitment of additional retail services.”
