The City of Warrensburg employs a Code Enforcement Inspector who responds to community complaints regarding vehicles that are disabled, abandoned or parked on a non-hard surface (on lawn or right-of-way). The following steps should be followed if a citizen has concerns regarding vehicles fitting this description:
Step One: Filing a ComplaintWhenever a citizen becomes concerned about a vehicle the first step in resolving the situation is to contact the City of Warrensburgs Code Enforcement Inspector at (660) 747-9131 or come in to the Municipal Building located at 102 South Holden Street. The complaint will be recorded and the complainant will have the option of giving or not giving their name for the record.
Step Two: Investigation of the ComplaintUpon receiving the complaint, the Code Enforcement Inspector will go to the location of the reported violation and inspect the vehicle. If the owner or tenant is at the property at the time of the investigation, the Inspector will identify him or herself, state their purpose in investigating the vehicle and if an ordinance is being violated, outline corrective measures to bring the property into compliance. The Inspector will request compliance and record all discussions with the owner or tenant in his or her report. The results of the inspection will be recorded on the same complaint form originally filed by the complainant and any violations of city ordinances will be identified. If the owner or tenant is not on the property the Inspector may post an abatement notice on the vehicles window to inform the owner of the violation.
Step Three: Abatement ProcessIf the Code Enforcement Inspector determines the property inspected is in violation of city ordinance, the process of abating the violation begins. In addition to posting the property or discussing the situation with the owner or tenant, the Inspector will send a letter to the owner and request corrective action is taken. This letter will provide the property owner 10 days to comply with the ordinance(s). If the vehicle is not removed within this period all documented information will be turned over to the Warrensburg Police Department who will designate a towing company for removal and all costs will be forwarded to the vehicles owner.
