Weeds & Trash |
||
The City of Warrensburg employs a Code Enforcement Inspector who responds to community complaints regarding the overgrowth of weeds and grass and accumulation of trash on properties within the city limits. The following steps should be followed if a citizen has concerns regarding neglected properties:
Step One: Filing a Complaint
Whenever a citizen becomes concerned about weeds and/or trash the first step in resolving the situation is to contact the City of Warrensburg's Code Enforcement Inspector at (660) 747-9131 or come to the Municipal Building located at 102 South Holden Street. The complaint will be recorded and the complainant will have the option of giving or not giving their name for the record.
Step Two: Investigation of the Complaint
Upon receiving the complaint, the Code Enforcement Inspector will go to the location of the reported violation and inspect the property. If the owner or tenant is at the property at the time of the investigation, the Inspector will identify him or herself, state their purpose in investigating the property and if an ordinance is being violated, outline corrective measure to bring the property into compliance. The Inspector will request compliance and record all discussions with the owner or tenant in his or her report. The results of the inspection will be recorded on the same complaint form originally filed by the complainant and any violations of city ordinances will be identified. If the owner or tenant is not on the property the Inspector may post an abatement notice on the property to inform the owner of the violation, especially if the situation is of a serious nature and needs immediate attention.
Step Three: Abatement Process
If the Code Enforcement Inspector determines the property inspected is in violation of city ordinance, the process of abating the violation begins. In addition to posting the property or discussing the situation with the owner or tenant, the Inspector will send a letter to the owner and request corrective action be taken. This letter will provide the property owner up to 10 days to comply with the ordinance(s) or the issue will be turned over to the City Prosecutor for further action.
