2007-08 City Council Program Goals
Donna DeFrain Mayor Donna DeFrain
I am excited to be able to serve the citizens of Warrensburg. I ran for city council because the city has been a wonderful place for my family and career. I have lived in Warrensburg all of my life and have just recently retired from public school education. My husband, David, is a retired university professor and we have raised our three children in the Warrensburg schools.  They have participated in  the wonderful activities provided through our great Park and Recreation programs. Two graduated from Central Missouri State University and one from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. My parents owned and operated Crandal's Meat Market and Locker for over 20 years on Pine Street. I attended the Warrensburg schools and graduated from Central Missouri State University with three degrees. I taught for the Warrensburg Area Vocational-Technical School (now named Warrensburg Area Career Center) for 18 years teaching high school juniors, seniors and adults in the area of business and office education and technology. I was very fortunate to have an internship program which allowed me the opportunity to work with great business partners. I also coached the WHS dance team for 23 years.
I have served on many executive boards for my professional organizations (Missouri Business Education Association, Missouri ACTE, and North Central Business Education Association) and held officer positions. Currently, I serve on the Board of Directors for Central Missouri Community Credit Union and have been there for 11 years.
The growth occurring in Warrensburg is exciting, and I want people to have PRIDE in our city.
Please feel free to contact me with any community concerns you might have. I am always willing to listen.

Don Nimmer Council Member Don Nimmer
I moved to Warrensburg in August, 1979, to begin employment at the University of Central Missouri. I remained employed there for 23 1/2 years, until my retirement on February 1, 2003.  I am married to Carole Wallace Nimmer (formerly from Clinton, MO) and am the proud parent of five children: Tim, Angela, Natalie, Michael, and Elizabeth.
The satisfaction a person can derive from living in any community, I believe, is related to the manner in which that person and that community purposefully interact.  That is, what does the community have to offer and what are the expectations and contributions of the person.  Personally, I have found the balance between my expectations and what Warrensburg has to offer to be sound.  Warrensburg has provided me a safe and secure place in which I continue to raise my family.  Its strengths range from its diverse, caring, and talented residents, excellent schools, numerous cultural programs and athletic competitions, to name just a few.  In return, I have been encouraged and allowed to serve the Warrensburg community -- often in leadership roles; First Presbyterian Church (elder, deacon, committee member), Habitat for Humanity (board member and treasurer), Survival Adult Abuse Center (board member and treasurer), the Food Center (board member and secretary), the Christmas Store (coordinator), Friends of the Library (board member and vice president), PTA (president), Warrensburg Christian Social Concerns, school volunteer, and now on the Warrensburg City Council.
In short, Warrensburg has truly become my home!
I encourage each citizen of Warrensburg to become informed and involved with their municipal government.  Please contact me as you encounter community issues and concerns about which you wish to learn more or to see changed.  It is only through an open dialogue that we all can become enthusiastic community boosters.
Deborah Arwood Council Member Deborah Arwood
I moved to Warrensburg in 1982 to attend Central Missouri State University and graduated in 1986.   My husband, Jim, worked at Stahl Specialty for 26 years as B-Shift supervisor.  Jim and I started Arwood’s Furniture and Gifts in May of 1986 and have owned and operated the store since.  My son, Jimmy, 25, has worked at Stahl Specialty Company for seven years and is a full-time student at State Fair Community College.  My daughter, Lisa,  23, is a 2003 graduate of Central Missouri State University with a degree in Business Administration and is currently working at Arwood’s Furniture as office manager.  I am a member of Grover Park Baptist Church and currently serve on the Steering Committee and Chair the Furnishings Committee.  I am a member of the International Home Furnishings Association, Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce and Early Bird Rotary for which I currently Chair the Community Service Committee.  I am a charter member of Warrensburg Main Street, Inc. and have held the position of President and served on the Organization, Search and Promotion Committees.  John Culp asked me to consider running for City Council.  Jim and I discussed the idea and we felt there should be a business person involved.  We love Warrensburg and believe in supporting local businesses and contributing back to our community.  I believe my common sense approach, open-mindedness and experience in budgeting, marketing, promoting, directing employees, and working with volunteers will be useful in this position.  A few of my objectives are: Researching and developing a recycling program; developing new interchanges off of 50 Highway and an attractive corridor into our city; new streets and infrastructure in undeveloped areas of Warrensburg to encourage new residential and commercial growth; voluntary annexation of areas around Warrensburg to facilitate future expansion and growth; attract new business and industry thus producing growth; strive to provide professionally managed, well trained and equipped fire and police departments; managing city funds in a responsible manner; and addressing the problem of on-line sales tax collection.  Also, I would like to assist in building a cooperative relationship with the County leadership on projects involving both city and county.
Jeff Terry Council Member Dr. Curt Dyer
It’s a real pleasure and an honor to serve Warrensburg as a City Council member. I grew up in many small communities in Missouri including Sweet Springs, Lexington, Windsor, and Harrisonville. I came to Warrensburg in 1985 to join the medical practice of Dr. Al Folkner and Dr. David Glover. I am a Family Physician and part owner of Central Family Medicine. I am board certified in Sports Medicine and I share responsibilities as team physician for UCM Mules and Jennies and Warensburg HS football. I am also involved in the sports medicine for the WHS girls soccer and the Warrensburg Piranhas. I have served on numerous committees at Western Missouri Medical Center and currently serve as Risk Management Coordinator for Central Family Medicine.

I am married to Lisa, for the past 19 years and we have five wonderful children. I enjoy participating in my children’s lives by coaching their sports at the Parks Department and the YES programs. I also lead their Catholic Confirmation classes at Sacred Heart Church. My family and my faith family are my cornerstones. I am looking forward to this new challenge and hope you will share your dreams, comments and concerns regarding our great community, Warrensburg.
