Volunteering/Community Service

Volunteer

Old Drum & Friends Animal Shelter accepts volunteers that are 18 years of age or older. The first step in the process is to fill out the volunteer application that can be found at our physical location. Once the application has been turned in, shelter staff can begin scheduling you for volunteer hours.

Guidelines

Volunteers need to note that:

  • Volunteers can be at the shelter from 8 a.m. until closing Tuesday through Saturday.
  • All hours must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance with the shelter staff.
  • All volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes and, preferably, long pants. These clothes need to be clothes that you don't mind getting a little dirty!
  • For the first 5 hours of volunteer work, we do ask that you do basic cleaning chores such as dishes, or helping us clean the kennels. This is just so we can get an idea of how you interact with the animals. After 5 hours have been completed, volunteers can begin working with the animals at the staffs discretion.
